Generally, a warranty is understood as a promise made by either a manufacturer or dealer on a new car saying that they will repair or replace certain issue or malfunction within a certain amount of time. In other words, a warranty is essentially an insurance policy on a vehicle that protects you, as the buyer, from unexpected expenses.
But warranties are not just for new cars! Warranties can also apply to used cars in the form of an extended or limited warranty. There are two types of extended warranties – those offered by the manufacturer, also known as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and those offered by third-party vendors, also known as aftermarket warranties.
Typically, there are two kinds of OEM warranties and their names will likely sound familiar to you: powertrain and bumper-to-bumper. Powertrain warranties protect your engine and transmission from any kind of defect that results in malfunctions. In addition to the engine and transmission, bumper-to-bumper warranties cover a variety of other things including navigation systems and other electronics installed in your vehicle. For a used vehicle, these OEM warranties are very similar to those on new vehicles; they often cover the vehicle for a certain amount of time and/or a certain number of miles, not including the mileage already on the vehicle.
Third-party warranties, or aftermarket warranties, tend to be similar in nature to OEM warranties; that being said, there are usually some restrictions and exclusions with third-party warranties. These restrictions often include limitations on where you are able to get your vehicle fixed and do not guarantee that original manufacturer parts will be used. Perhaps the largest difference between OEM and third-party warranties is the way claims are handled. Typically, third-party warranties require you to file a claim for repairs, meaning you have to pay out of pocket and potentially wait weeks to months to be reimbursed. Other times, there will be a deductible you must pay before repairs are completed.
The Drive Casa Difference
At Drive Casa, our main goal is keeping your vehicle on the road. With that in mind, we strive to provide you peace-of-mind with every purchase in a few ways. First, we offer a three-day return guarantee; if for any reason within three days of your purchase you aren’t happy, bring it back to us – no questions asked. Second, we provide multi-point inspections. We thoroughly inspect all used vehicles before they ever hit our lot. If they don’t pass our rigid guidelines for safety and quality, you won’t find that vehicle on our lot. And third, all Drive Casa vehicles come with a detailed vehicle history report; this means that you will know the backstory of your car including any accidents or damage.
Drive Casa offers a limited warranty on vehicles that will protect you against unforeseen major mechanical problems with a low, $100 deductible good for twelve months or 12,000 miles. This warranty covers the heating and air conditioning, the engine, the drive axels, and the transmission. Additionally, we offer complimentary oil changes that can help you stretch your budget a little bit further! We happily pay for oil changes every 3,000 miles or every three months for the first year!
